What do I do with Wedding Favours?

There are no right or wrongs when it comes to giving out your wedding favours. There are various options for getting the favours to your wedding guests and the choice you make will be based on what will work for you best. Some factors to consider are the number of guests who are receiving favors from you and the theme of your wedding.

Traditionally unique wedding favours were left on a table near the entrance with a sign thanking guests for their appearance and asking them to take a gift as a thank you from the bride and groom. The advantages of this are that it is really easy to set up and once done it can be left for the wedding guests to help themselves. If you have purchased a variety of favours it also gives guests the advantage of getting to choose something rather being given a gift that is of no use to them. However, some negative points to consider are that some guests may forget to take one, some guests may even take more than one and others may be unaware of the gifts in the first place. For this reason it may be a good idea to get your dj to make an announcement about the table of gifts.

This method is really great if you are having a small wedding and want to thank guests individually and personally for attending the big day. A great way to do this is to hand out the favors during the receiving line so that guests will feel welcome and they will know you appreciate their turning up to your special day. Another method is for the bride and groom to go round the tables and hand out the favours after the first dance has taken place and guests have eaten. Drawbacks to this method may include factors such as not having enough time to go round everyone and thus some guests feeling hurt or left out. It can also be a timely practise to go round all guests handing the wedding favours out and having some chat at the same time too. For this reason it is not recommended for large weddings to avoid putting strain and stress on the bride and groom, but for smaller weddings personally handing out the favours can be a really nice touch.

This idea is the most common and modern way to deliver wedding favours to your guests as it is both practical and decorative as well as time saving and efficient. If you are having a large wedding this method means you don’t have to go round all the guests individually as there simply won’t be enough time. Simply placing the wedding favours on each guest table is a great way to get the guests to notice the wedding favours and take them home. The favors can still be personalised using a thank you tag with guest names, the wedding date and a short message. This way the gifts can also make great wedding table decorations adding to the theme and feel of the wedding. For example if you are having a fairy tale themed wedding placing princess candle slippers or glass pumpkin coaches on the tables can be a really enchanting touch to your wedding.

All of the above methods are good practices and perfectly acceptable for giving out your wedding favours. The best method will be different for everyone and will be up to you to select the method that will suit you and your wedding the best.

So you have a special occasion coming up, it might be your son’s first birthday or his twenty first birthday or perhaps its your big wedding day and you need invitations to mark the special occasion and remind all of your guests to join you in the celebration.

So what should you look for when buying invitations?
Well here are some questions to ask yourself:

Do you want your invites to be personalised with a photograph, printed dates and times or perhaps you might prefer to write them all out yourself? Personalised and printed invites can save enormous amounts of time, especially if you require anything over 25 invitations. Some traders offer a customised service allowing you to specify colours and images and to practically design the invite yourself. Others will have a selection of templates for you to choose from.

How much time do you have untill the occasion? If you are having invitations designed and delivered, you will want to do it early to allow some time for the invites to be designed and then some time to make any alterations to the design, and then you must allow time to post your invites to your guests and time for them to reply. We recommend you buy your invites at least 3-4 weeks before the big day to allow plenty of time. So if you are having personalised invites designed make sure you enquire about turnaround time and delivery time to ensure things aren’t left too late.

Do you need envelopes or a coloured pen? As you will be busy planning your event and organising things it is easy to forget about simple things like envelopes and a coloured pen to match your invites. Some invitations come with a glossy finish and are not suitable to write on with a normal ball point pen. So you might want to make sure that pens are glossy/photo proof. Many sellers don’t include the price of envelopes with their invitations but they can usually be supplied for a little extra. It is recommended to buy the envelopes from your seller as it may prove difficult to get envelopes the correct size and it may be expensive. How much information should I include on the invitation? It is best to keep the text minimal on your invite to avoid over crowding, and having text so small that it is hard to read. So stick to the important information and keep it short and concise. You will want to include important details such as: Occasion, Date, Time, Venue, RSVP (phone number, address or email).

Price? This is going to be a factor for almost everyone. So if you’re on a tight budget you might want to stick to standard invitations that you can fill all details yourself as these tend to be cheaper. However if time consumption is of more concern, you may want to pay the extra to have your invitations personalised and printed, ready for you to simply send out. Another factor to consider is if you want a specific type of invitation, for example Walt Disney invites or the Simpsons etc. It is unlikely that any company will own the copyright to use such images on your personalised invites, so in this case you might be as well just buying the invitations from an official retailer to avoid breaking any copyright laws.
